Diagnosing vesicovaginal fistula
Diagnosis starts with a physical examination of the vagina and the abdominal area. Most common reasons for the condition are childbirth and a recent surgery. In addition to the physical examination, an X-ray and CT scan may be required to see the exact location of the problem.
Treatment
Surgery is the only option to treat the problem. The fistula is closed and any other damages to the bladder will be fixed. Surgery is often successful in non-cancer patients. In case of cancer patients, the outcome may not be as good.
During the process of healing, a catheter (tube) is placed inside the bladder so that the urine comes out through it.
